VINCENT LAFORET

BIO
Swiss-born Vincent Laforet has always been fascinated by the visual arts, his interest really took off when he was 15 years old - his father lent him his 35mm camera and he spent days wandering around New York City taking pictures.

Laforet’s career started in photojournalism, landing an internship with the Los Angeles Times and Reuters News. By the time he was 25 he had established himself as the youngest staff photographer for the New York Times, and by the time he left he had a Pulitzer for feature photography under his belt.

In 2005 ‘American Photo’ named him one of the ‘100 Most Influential People in Photography’, his work has been recognized in the Communications Arts and PDN annuals and he has been honored by the World Press Photo Awards, the Pictures of the Year competition, the Overseas Press Club, the National Headliners Awards and the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

2006 saw Laforet become the New York Times first national contract photographer, covering a multitude of assignments for a wide variety of world-class publications including Vanity Fair, The New York Times magazine, National Geographic, Sports Illustrated, Time, Newsweek and Life.

In June 2010 he accomplished the unprecedented feat of winning a Gold, Silver and Bronze in the Titanium category at Cannes Lions International Advertising Festival for his work on the groundbreaking ‘Beyond the Still’ competition sponsored by Canon. The experience led him to embrace the role of filmmaker and director.

Laforet is a member of the Directors Guild of America, is a DP with the International Cinemetographers’ Guild-Local 600, and has directed dozens of short films and countless commercials.
